WHERE MARKET STREET'S FAMILIAR NAMES WENT, AND WHY GROGAN'S MILL IS SUDDENLY BUSY

"The wait is finally over. We are excited to share all the new and classic favorites with you again. Come see us!" That was the announcement from Schilleci's New Orleans Kitchen this spring, after 15 years at Market Street. Woodlands Online reported on April 6, 2026 that the restaurant had reopened at 2501 Research Forest Drive, Suite B. Its last day at Market Street was Valentine's Day.

A gap of about seven weeks between the old dining room and the new one says a lot about The Woodlands in 2026. The best-known local restaurants leaving Market Street have stayed in town. The redeveloped Grogan's Mill Village Center is where the most new names have been landing. If you've been wondering where a favorite table went, the answer may be on Research Forest Drive, Buckthorne Place or Switchbud Place.

THE MARKET STREET LEDGER, BUSINESS BY BUSINESS

Here's where things stand as of early October 2026, based on reporting from Community Impact, Woodlands Online and FOX 26 Houston.

Schilleci's announced the move well ahead of time. Community Impact first reported the Research Forest relocation on Nov. 5, 2025, so the restaurant had months to tell its regulars. Uni Sushi was in a different position. When it closed in January, the owners said they were preparing to reopen nearby but had no address or date to share. That came on June 29, when Howard Hughes Communities announced the restaurant for Grogan's Mill.

WHAT MARKET STREET IS FILLING THOSE SPACES WITH

Trademark Property Company manages Market Street, and it has explained the changes openly. On Dec. 3, 2025, Market Street announced seven signings: David Yurman, Draper James, Pink Chicken, Le Labo, LoveShackFancy, gorjana and Local Public Eatery. Hello Woodlands' coverage of that announcement described it as an effort to refine the tenant mix with in-demand retail, restaurant and lifestyle concepts. Most of those brands were already open when the announcement came out. LoveShackFancy opened in October 2025, and David Yurman, Draper James, Pink Chicken and gorjana followed in November. Le Labo was set for a mid-January 2026 opening at Suite 940.

Turnover is fast at this end, too. Draper James opened in early November 2025. By Sept. 12, 2026, Golden Gray Boutique had moved into the former Draper James space at Suite 950, a move owner Kirstie Winter confirmed to Community Impact. Golden Gray also has a Rice Village location and plans one in Creekside Park.

More openings are on the way, but none has a confirmed opening date yet:

FOX 26 Houston's report on the shift included the other side. Longtime residents and former tenants told the station they missed the local businesses, and Trademark declined an interview. The same report said Market Street remains nearly 95% occupied. The center is still close to full, with a different mix of names than it had a year ago.

GROGAN'S MILL GOT READY BEFORE THE MOVES STARTED

The Grogan's Mill rebuild started long before any of these moves. Howard Hughes and Montgomery County put $16.5 million into a two-part redevelopment at 7 Switchbud Place. One part modernized the retail space. The other built a new library and community center. The retail work included foundation repairs, structural improvements and new patio space, and businesses stayed open during construction.

Here is the order of events since then:

Uni Sushi's new restaurant will be about 3,500 square feet, with indoor seating for roughly 230 to 250 guests and a covered patio, under owners Angel Barragan and Rosie Izaguirre.

WHAT'S STILL PENDING ON BUCKTHORNE

Some Grogan's Mill openings are still unconfirmed, and it helps to know which ones before you plan an evening around them.

Turquoise Wine Bar is coming to 2230 Buckthorne Place. In May, Community Impact reported that work was underway and the goal was a late-September or early-October 2026 opening. As of this writing, we haven't found confirmation that it has opened. Daniel & Co. Fine Jewelry & Watches was reported under construction at 2260 Buckthorne Place in February, with its opening listed as TBD. Half Baked Goodness was announced with a summer 2025 target and still appeared on a June 2025 list of incoming tenants. We haven't found a later update.

Openings here have tended to run late. Yonutz first projected a winter 2025 opening at 7 Switchbud Place and opened at 2230 Buckthorne Place nine months later. Cooking Girl opened a season after its target. Uni Sushi's 2027 date is a schedule, not a promise, and it's best to treat it that way.

HOW THE MAP HAS CHANGED

A year ago, the same night out meant different addresses. Schilleci's and Uni Sushi were both at Market Street. Now Schilleci's is on Research Forest Drive. Uni Sushi is headed to the center that also has the Kevin Brady Library, a Sichuan restaurant, a doughnut and ice cream shop, a nail bar and a studio, with a wine bar and a jeweler in the works. Market Street is still nearly full and is adding names like Le Labo, Varley and Aritzia that are new to many residents.

Uni Sushi is the clearest example of the move. It spent years at Suite 860 on Six Pines Drive and will reopen at Suite 190 on Switchbud Place with seating for roughly 230 to 250 guests and a covered patio.

Shopping centers change, and a new tenant or a move can shift how a part of town feels day to day.
